Medicare Better Access Scheme
Medicare rebates are available for psychological treatment by registered psychologists and clinical psychologists under the Australian Government’s Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative. This scheme provides considerable assistance to people living with mental health problems, allowing them greater access to psychologists and providing more affordable healthcare.
Under the Better Access Initiative, eligible people can receive:
Up to 10 individual sessions in a calendar year (1st January - 31st December)
The initial referral is for a maximum of six sessions, and the review referral is for a further four sessions
Your referring doctor will assess your progress after the first six sessions to determine whether the further four sessions are needed.

To access treatment under Department of Veteran’s Affairs, a D904 Veteran’s Affairs Request referral is required from the GP.

National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) exists to provide people with disability the funds they need to access support that will improve their quality of life.
The NDIS sets price limits for services provided to NDIS participants, including psychology support. The limits specify the maximum amount that NDIS providers can charge for specific types of services, and these limits must be followed when delivering services to you if you are using a NDIS-managed or plan-managed funds.
Depending on your plan, there can be a co-payment associated with receiving treatment under this referral pathway.
There are three management pathways for NDIS. We offer the following two pathways.
1) Plan-Managed
Who pays? A Plan Manager (funded by NDIS) pays providers on the participant’s behalf.
Providers: Can include non-registered providers
Flexibility: Moderate - you can choose providers, but must follow NDIS pricing limits
Best for: Participants who want choice but not the associated admin.
2) Self-Managed
Who pays? The participant (or nominee) pays providers and claims reimbursement.
Providers: Any provider registered or not.
Flexibility: Highest - you can negotiate rates and choose anyone who meets your goals.
Best for: Participants who want full control and are confident managing finances.
